UEGCL was established as one of the successor companies of UEB when it (UEB) was unbundled and split into 3 successor companies, that is UEGCL, UETCL, and UEDCL. UEGCL was incorporated on 26th March 2001 as a limited liability company and started operations on 1st April 2001.The main objective of the Company is to generate power that will be able to meet the ever-growing needs of the domestic market and the surplus to be exported to neighbouring countries. Specifically, UEGCL is mandated to establish, acquire, maintain and operate electricity generation facilities and to promote Research and Development in the electricity generation sector while running the Company on sound business principles. |

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a Public Limited Liability Company established on March 26th 2001 as a result of the power sector reform and liberalization policy of the Government of Uganda that unbundled Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) into successor companies. |

The Eastern Africa Power Pool was adopted by Heads of State and Government at the 11th Summit of COMESA in Djibouti in November, 2006 as a specialized institution of COMESA for electrical power for Eastern Africa. The overall objective is to facilitate regional integration and hence to realize sustainable growth and development. However, specific objectives of EAAP include optimisation of the usage of energy resources available in the COMESA region, increase in the power supply of the region, reduction in electricity production cost and creation of an environment that is conducive for investment. |
