Uganda has been a priority country for   Norwegian support to the energy sector since 1997. The major share of our financial contributions has been used to construct or refurbish power plants, sub-stations, transmission lines and to fund rural electrification projects, as well as capacity building. Norway has spent approximately 69 million US dollars on the energy sector in Uganda over this period. Uganda is one of the main partners in our Oil for Development programme. The objective of the cooperation is to build capacity in the oil and gas sector. The programme covers resource management, revenue management and environment. In addition to this programme, Norway has financed feasibility studies for a possible oil refinery and for storage and distribution of oil products.
